Yeah, the delay seems very odd, especially over a gold mine, but I
suspect the delay in the DVD release has to do with rights to the
material. Something tells me the Lord estate has a lot to do with it
too, but I got lucky in December 2004.
One afternoon, I was surfing through the channels and stumbled on -of
all shows- Hawaii Five-0 . It turned out to be "Full Fathom Five", the
very first episode and that the local WB affiliate had just started
running the show.
I couldn't be more thankful of my timing discovering it the way I did,
the fact that they were airing it unedited and in chronological order,
and how respectful they appeared to be about breaking for ads in the
original spots intended for them. They even ran the full credits
without chopping those up!
I acted swiftly and ended up with fantastic broadcast copies of the
first two seasons on VHS tape (including Cocoon), and they're easily
worthy of transfer to DVD whenever I want to.
It was an interesting show throughout its entire history, but I only
wanted the first two seasons for my library anyway, and I since have
them (minus the 2 episodes I missed) for the cost of 5 VHS tapes, they
can take as long as they wish.
