This is true: The cast of 'Family Ties' was SO uninterested in the
concept of a dreaded reunion special 10+ years later (oh, no worry
there about a demand of such a concept! lol), that they wanted the
very last scene and the entire series to end w/ the ENTIRE Keaton clan
to (((die))) in a plane crash.
Blast me if you wish, but I think that would F-ING AWESOME for '7th
Heaven'!!!!! I think you would have to have REAL BALLS to do that; one
of the bravest risks you could take in television. And what
(((better))) way to show life is unfair, by killing off one America's
most "beloved" TV families??????
Here's how *I* would do it:
The Camdens and all their friends end up going to some trip to
Switzerland. Blah, blah, blah... stuff happens. The second-last scene
has the airplane containing Camden & Co. having severe engine problems
and going down as the Camdens all say good-bye to each other KNOWING
their fate is sealed and out of their hands. Final scene: No showing
the actual crash; just a high aerial view of a wrecked plane in flames
crashed into a snowy mountain. The sounds of just the wind as they
fade to black PERMANENTLY!
Here's the beauty: If they want to do some kind of "I Dream Of
Jeannie: 25 Years Later" reunion special, they just explain at the
beginning that they (or some!) surivived the plane crash via a
flashback to the final 2 scenes of the last episode of the 11th
season. :-)
