I should know better than to expect consistency and rationality from
any 7th Heaven episode, but I cannot resist commenting on one of the
more glaring inconsistencies in this episode:
Lucy begs, pleads, and threatens one of the hospital staff members
(I'll assume she was a nurse) for an update on her father's
condition. The nurse steadfastly refuses, citing hospital rules,
etc. Then this same nurse is seen later at the church, confessing
that she is the one who leaked the news to the church members about
Eric's miraculous cure. So, she won't notify a known family member
but she will run around and gossip about it to a bunch of strangers.
Nice job, there, babe. The 7th Heaven writers obviously decided to
pretend that the rather stringent privacy requirements of HIPAA don't
exist.
On an unrelated note....while Lucy is throwing her overwrought hissy
fit against the hospital staff, she makes some comment about Eric that
is overheard by an elderly black lady (a patient, presumably) who is
passing by. The patient turns around and gives Lucy a "knowing"
look. I immediately assumed that the patient is some kind of "angel"
who knows the scoop. However, we never see that patient again
(unless she shows up in the final episode, which I haven't watched
yet). So, what was up with that whole "knowing glance" thing?
