Your problem is that of the shows you're citing, over half of them are
10 years old or more (Seaquest, Earth 2), and often 20-25 years old
(BW:TOS, Buck Rogers, Trek:TOS) and the one recent one that you cite
was just plain terrible (Surface.)
IOW, they're all straw men regarding NBC's current attitude toward the
SF genre, which includes embracing Heroes and the new BW, trying to
heavily push Chuck no matter how bad it is and even giving the bland
Journeyman a berth at 10pm Mondays. And that's not even including
Medium, which will be premiering as soon as something else gets
cancelled, essentially to not overload the schedule with procedurals,
even an SF-procedural hybrid.
IOW, that bad taste in your mouth is your memory of NBC's previous
attitude. Let it go.

LORELAI: I am so done with plans. I am never, ever making one again.
It never works. I spend the day obsessing over why it didn't work
and what I could've done differently. I'm analyzing all my shortcomings
when all I really need to be doing is vowing to never, ever make a plan
ever again, which I'm doing now, having once again been the innocent
victim of my own stupid plans. God, I need some coffee.
