Alias was cancelled for the most common reason of all ... the ratings
were bad.
When that happens, the series becomes unprofitable and Networks have
stockholders to answer to. It's also not uncommon for the shows that
replace those cancelled series to be worse than they were. Not every
show is a hit.
Now why the ratings fell ... that's another question altogether. There
was a lot of (unconfirmed) talk that Jennifer Garner was getting bored
with the series. That may have been partially due to the other insider
chat about how the scripts were getting repetitive.
