I have never thought of NGs in terms of opened and closed. I always
thought
of them in terms of active / inactive (in terms of new posts being made)
and
carried / not carried (in terms of one's own ISP).

(But then again, I've just been accused of being "constrained by linear
thinking", so perhaps it is best that I don't share my thoughts too much
anymore.)

I'm not sure whether you (or the OP) realise it, but once a newsgroup is
created, it can't be deleted and will always remain a part of the Usenet
heirarchy. (That's part of the reason it is so hard to create a new
newsgroup.)

If a newsgroup ceases to be active, one-by-one ISPs begin to drop it from
the list of NGs they carry and so subscribers from that ISP can't see it
any
more, nor can they post to it via their ISP. Eventually only a small
number
of ISPs carry the group and, to all intents and purposes, it is "dead" (or
"closed" if you prefer).

However, such groups remain eternally available using third party Usenet
access (such as Google Groups).

If you were aleady aware of this, I apologise for "preaching to the
choir".

Again, you may or may not be aware, but AMB is currently being re-shown by
Fox over in America. (They are near the end of the first series -
although
it appears they missed a couple of episodes in early August.)

Channel 4 currently have no plans to rescreen AMB. (At least that's what
they said when I asked them.)

The most likely scenario (IMHO) is that the show will be picked up by one
of
the many satellite / cable channels and repeated there.

Are you only interested in questions and opinions from new watchers?
That's
ageist against us "old watchers" you know! I think I'll have to re****t
you
for your blatent discriminatory stance. ;o)

Better late than never. :-)

So you're part of the infamous "lurking majority" then?

I hope you're going to remain posting now you've started?
