About Billy (and Georgia)

by nospam@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Apr 5, 2005 at 09:42 PM

I am unsure about the bleaching of Billy's hair and all that followed.
When did "Billy" tell them he wanted to leave the show?

I would like to think that at the end of s2 he told them, so they
wrote s3 knowing they would write him out by suffering a tumour, which
would also cause him to act strangely.

However, "it troubles me" that may be the s3 "new man in town"
nonsense was written before Gil expressed his desires to leave and the
tumour was hastily written in later.

It's just that in s3 Billy behaves totally out of character. In s1 and
s2 I wanted to see them together but in s3 I did not; he was a pr*t.
The only consolation is that if the tumour was planned from day one,
we can excuse his behaviour as a side effect of the tumour, but if
this behaviour was planned before the tumour, well, that makes Billy's
behaviour inexcusable and makes his character much less likeable.

If the tumour was to blame, I think it was a poor device for a story.
It would have been better to make him have a tumour but not act an
idiot. What was all that macho nonsense about anyway?

I disagree that the will they/won't they had been resolved. To an
extent it had because he was a pr*t and Ally did not want to be with
him, and we did not want to see her with him at that point. Yet they
could have procrastinated and thought about it and changed their minds
and finally got together eventually.

The only disadvantage of having Billy hanging about was that it
stopped John and Ally getting together, which looked an exciting
possibility s2-s3ish. Mel split with John because he loved Ally, yet
nothing happened. I do not understand why John was so happy to see
Ally be with other men.

Billy had to be killed because had he moved to another town, Ally
would have to have followed. The suggestion that Georgia die too in a
car crash could have been a convenient way to remove both of them. I
never understood why he chose Georgia over Ally. I never found Georgia
very pretty, sorry, but what is her attraction?

Since Billy and Georgia were fighting this could have given a better
exit to Billy. He could have fled after an argument with Georgia or
chased after her and run into traffic. Or in a fight with her a fire
could have been started removing them both. Much better than the
please excuse Billy for the last season, it was the tumour talking,
not him, was as bad as if Ally had woken up and Billy had just been a
dream.

I was surprised how quickly Ally got over Billy. Really she should
have seen his ghost for a season or so after his death, but of course
that was not possible with the actor gone.

A quick note about Georgia: I never liked the way Ally befriended her.
Why should like and be loyal to the woman who stole her true love? I
could never figure that out. It was not right.

I'm halfway through watching s4, so Larry questions next time.
