goodnight my someone...

Hey you know what, I really miss this show.

Ally Mcbeal was so over-the-top, so insane, so weird.... yet so very
personal
and realistic. Does that make any sense? Probably not to everyone no, but
you
diehards can probably understand.

It was as if the insane world of Ally and John Cage where actually our
very own
subconscious' fighting their way out. Characters who felt the ability to
feel,
to bring something very powerful to the screen. I would argue those two,
along
with Richard Fish are some of the finest characters ever written for
television.

How can such insane behaviour feel so real? Maybe it wasn't that insane at
all.
The show was so comfortable, in that when Ally was clearly going insane
having
hallucinations about beating up babies or dancing with Al Green we never
once
doubted her, nor did we fill any disdain for Cage's Call Girl incident.
And
come to think of it, as much as we hated Nel (Morgan) and Ling, well... we
wanted them to be there.

The passing and resurrection of Billy was always such a comforting thing.
He
was a metaphor for our lives and how they change.. how even though things
die
you'll always remember them, they'll come back and visit you.

It was a show for romantics, I guess. Ally being the hopeless romantic...
but
it's also kind of cautionary and very sad because, Ally ends up alone.
Despite
Billy, and Larry, and Victor. The show ends will Ally Mcbeal alone. I
always
felt comforted by the characters of the show because they felt so real, so
home, so right. It was a reminder that you can be different, or a little
insane, but everything will turn out fine. But in the end, there's lots of
loneliness with the harsh reality that Ally is still singing 'Goodnight My
Someone', chances are she won't find the right man down her street any
time
soon. That life flashes us by, and we have to use ourselves and our
situations
to keep us going.. because nothing is certain. At least, this is what I
denote
from Ally Mcbeal.

What an amazing show. And now it's gone. Thank God for the funky funky
DVD's..

Dan
