Last night was Season 1 Episode 8, "Drawing the Lines" where, Elaine draws
a
line when she hires an attorney to file a sexual harassment complaint
against the firm, Billy draws a line when he decides to be honest with
Ally,
Ally draws a line by telling Billy to stop being honest, and both Georgia
and Ally cross a line drawn for them by their client. Then, they both
subsequently cross a line of their own morality to win a case and Fish too
draws a line, when he tears up the complaint form and tells the whole
office
they can leave if they aren't happy.
Not wanting to rub it in (too much), but I'm really enjoying watching Ally
from the top again. The writing really is superb and the interaction
between the characters is excellent.
Furthermore, knowing what is coming further down the line makes you notice
the subtle things more. For instance, in last night's episode, Ally told
Billy that if they are going to be friends, they will have to draw some
lines and not be so honest with each other to which Billy agreed.
Toward the end of the episode, Ally tells Billy that their friendship is
the
greatest thing she has going, and since honesty is important in a
friendship, they shouldn't put boundaries on that.
Therefore, they decide to "freefall with the truth, and hope we both
survive." But we know what's coming and that they can save themselves a
lot
of trouble by sticking with the original agreement.
As a final thought, I like how the episode finished with Ally showering
(no,
not for those reasons - what do you take me for!), clearly crossing the
line
in her case left her feeling "dirty", after which she stares into her
mirror
and dreams of dancing with Billy, in formal wear, in the unisex, which is,
of course, the same daydream Billy was having when Ally caught him staring
in the mirror earlier in the episode.
"They were happier times..."
