Yes - and it seems to me that this is the "trigger" doing precisely what 
it was designed to do, spread doubt and disharmony among the good guys - 
none all wrong, none all right, all terrified.

And it is possible because of two things, one told the other implied: 

1) Buffy has seen Spike "turn and fight the demon" where others haven't 
but her track record of being a bit crap at keeping her friends up to 
speed (c/w keeping Angel's return secret) means they almost certainly 
have no full grasp of this;

2) She has unwittingly bought into the the Shadow Men/ Watchers 
propaganda: the Chosen One, she alone....etc.etc. She is hopelessly 
ill-equipped to lead because she has never truly had to. That, to me, 
sets up all that is to follow right to season's end. All it needs is for 
Giles to lose faith and then someone else for the gals to look to....
