....the animated series Road Rovers made its debut. It was about dogs
being turned into superheroes. You may not be familiar with it (if not,
check out these sites: http://members.tripod.com/~Rover_Wow
and
http://members.tripod.com/~RRStuff
), but back in the day, it had quite
a following on the internet, and its fans frequently complained that it
got cancelled after just one season, in which it did as well as the
animated Superman (which would last a few more years), and most often
targeted then WB exec Jamie Kellener for the cancellation of not just
Rovers, but also Freakazoid and Earthworm Jim.
These days, how many people still remember Rovers (like me)? Chances
are, not that many. Believe me, it's hard to get people interested in a
show that's not even on the air or on DVD. I've put up a page on trying
to get people to write letters to WB to have them consider airing
reruns of the show (http://members.tripod.com/~Rover_Wow/rwi.htm
) and
it hasn't gotten any real interest, nor has this fanart solicitation
(http://members.tripod.com/~Rover_Wow/interp.htm
).
But despite having just 13 eps to its name, it managed to hang in the
consciousness of its fans for years (thanks partially to Cartoon
Network rerunning the series for another 4 years). And that is quite an
achievement.
Happy 10th, Rover fans, even if the show isn't around anymore.
(And just in case anyone from Toon Zone Forums is reading this, feel
free to relay this to the WB board on my behalf [I was banned a few
months ago].)
