The long coat, hat, shades and gloves immediately brought to mind Claude
Rains in James Whale's 1933 THE INVISIBLE MAN, with variations in its
several sequels. Griffin's bandaged face and the Cybernaut's metal one
also had a sort of expressionless mask effect. That was my first
reaction. It's an iconic look that I also associate with various spies
and shady characters, so it carries sinister connotations. Perhaps it
started with the cartoons of bomb-throwing anarchists at the beginning
of the 20th Century?
