Every vampire mythos has different rules.  In some it's also the silver 
backing of the mirror that keeps the vampire from reflecting.  Of course 
most modern mirrors don't use silver anymore; they use aluminum.  A 
vampire might only cast a dim refection in an antique mirror (about the 
same as you get off plain window glass) but be reflected perfectly in a 
modern mirror.
