The best strategy for a smart vampire would be just to avoid wherever 
the Slayer happens to be. If she's in America, go to Europe. If she's in 
Africa, go to Australia.

But failing that, a more bold plan would be to capture the Slayer and 
hold her prisoner in some deep dark hole somewhere-- but keep her alive. 
That way the current Slayer is removed as a threat and no new 
replacement will be called for quite a while for them to worry about.
