There was a second teletext format that was experimented with in such
areas which allowed for higher resolution (the amount of throughput that
was needed combined with the early state of the technology used was the
reason behind the low quality block graphics and text format originally
used by BBC and ITV services in the beginning). It never really caught on.

Close to the truth, though Ceefax has been revived in another form on
satellite but using a completely different format. Teletext on terrestrial
services continues as normal, though its future is closely tied to the
change of service from analogue to digital which will be taking place over
the course of the next few years.
ITV's original teletext service, Oracle, was replaced some years ago by
the imaginatively named "Teletext" provider, which is currently doing
similar sorts of changes on ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 services, though
isolated classic teletext style services continue on various channels for
advertising, reviews and so forth.
