I am not any more fond of the scheduling changes than you are, but it is
silly to assume that the Adult Swim staff is motivated by a hatred of
their viewers. A television network is a business, and their primary
motive is to make the business as successful as possible. That keeps the
network's focus on ratings and demographics. Adult Swim will go with
highly rated shows, irrespective of what they think of the shows or the
fans.
The banter in the Adult Swim bumpers frequently include the ratings. The
Williams Street comedy shows almost always have higher ratings than the
Anime shows. That is why we see the cutback in Anime. Trust me, if the
Anime shows were drawing bigger audiences, Adult Swim would schedule
more of them. Could you honestly imagine the Adult Swim staff telling
the Time Warner board "Yes, we know we could give you a better return on
your investment if we scheduled more Anime, but we just don't feel like
doing it"?
The real problem lies with the audience. This state of affairs would not
have happened if more people tuned in "Squidbillies" than "Big O".

I agree that "Assy McGee" is abysmal, and I was hoping its long hiatus
indicated that the show was dropped. Even so, its long absence indicates
that they have little faith in "Assy", so a few more weeks of low
ratings should polish it off.
