I liked it too, but it's not quite "his" since it's a direct adaptation of
Diane James-Wynn's award winning novel. Fans of the book felt the movie
fell a little short, but again, when you try to take a 200 page novel and
cram it into a 90 minute movie you're going to have problems.
I also felt it was quite different from his other works which always have
a very strong central theme and moral. Howl's, on the other hand, just
feels like a very good adventure fantasy. In this way, it's much like his
first film, Castle Cagliostro. This was another movie based on another
author's works, Lupin III. Miyazaki's interpretation of the characters
was softer and more altruistic. The Lupin III series that Adult Swim used
to show was closer to the original manga.
