In general, the storyline of a novel is simplified when it adapted to
film. Look at all the subplots in the Harry Potter novels that never
made to the screen!

"Castle Cagliostro" was not that much of a departure from the usual
"Lupin" story lines, for even the TV series would occasionally have
Lupin performing altruistic missions.

"Castle Cagliostro" is by far my my favorite animated version of "Lupin
III". The animation and direction is exquisite, both the action and
comedy sequences are well paced, and most im****tantly, Miyazaki had a
really solid story that holds everything together. The design and
animation for Fujiko Mine is especially pleasing. She is an interesting
character, but I've never cared for the way she was animated for the TV
series. In "Cagliostro", she looks great, and she has some great scenes.
My favorite Fujiko moment is where she, as a TV re****ter, covers a fight
that broke out at the castle while getting in some licks herself.
