Read, weep, and take a shower

| Not a good day. First Chak posts the link to the GSS data about
how little people know about science - even noncontroversial
topics like the earth going around the sun.
Then "Jesus Camp" arrives in the mail today, and we watch it this
evening. If you haven't heard of it, it's a do***entary about
Evangelical Christians and their attempts to brainwash their
children.
It was done in such a way that (according to one of the
filmmakers) the people who are shown in the do***entary thought
that the film ****trays them and their values fairly.
But they objected to clips of a liberal Christian Air America
commentator who thinks they represent a perversion of
Christianity. The camp leader talks with this host telling him
that democracy is ok, but it leaves too much freedom and the only
solution for the country is for everyone to follow Jesus.
A home-schooling mother is shown laughing about how science
doesn't "prove" anything. The film alleges that 75% of
home-schooled children are from Evangelical families.
At the Jesus Camp, kids are encouraged to speak in tongues. A
preacher p***** out plastic dolls that look like miniature
newborn infants, and alleges about one that's about an inch high,
"this one is seven weeks old." He tells them that 1/3 of their
friends were never born because they were aborted. The camp
leader goes off on a rant about the evils of Harry Potter, how
warlocks are against God. Kids are shown breaking down in tears
of anguish and ecstasy. In a scene that depicts them being told
to pray "for" Bush, complete with a life-size stand-up
photograph-on-cardboard, it looks more like they are praying TO him.
It ends with a group of kids - who look to be about 10 - going
out into a park proselytizing. They're very good at repeating
the words and phrases used to indoctrinate them.
Humminuh-humminuh-humminuh.
Can your skin crawl while your bones feel frozen?
