I've never tried this product, but the problem seems to be
endemic - and growing - or just coming to light?
Pork buns stuffed with cardboard
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2007-07/13/content_5434250.htm
A guy in Beijing who sells pork buns at a stand was mixing
cardboard treated with industrial caustic soda (lye?) with pork
fat and selling the mixture in pork buns... because the price of
pork had risen.
Maybe if enough Chinese are also impacted, they will be able to
turn the problem around.
At least Robert's appears to be stepping up to the task of doing
more testing. Unlike Menu Foods, whose CEO sold a bunch of stock
just before the melamine problem was reported.
I don't know what food manufacturers are going to do - so much is
coming from China, and there's no way to tell without doing a
complete supply chain search on every ingredient. I don't know
what we consumers are going to do ... get sick, I suppose.
