It was actually quite similar.  The thing is, it worked well for the 
character he played in NYPD Blue.  He played a detective on the streets of

New York City.  There were actual bad people that he had to capture (i.e.
be 
one of the first ones in after breaking down a door with his gun drawn). 
Now he is one of the first ones in after breaking down a door with his gun

drawn.........to collect evidence.  It just doesn't work.
