I don't know if anybody remembers this but here in Asia they've just
finished showing season 5 of CSI: Miami and, frankly, I thought it was
a good season overall but this particular exchange in one of the
episodes really bothered me.
HORATIO: There are a lot of people out looking for you, Chavez.
CHAVEZ: Well now you've found me.
HORATIO: You're going to pay for all the things you did.
CHAVEZ: Is it true? Is my birth father going to testify against me?
HORATIO: It's true, Chavez. You're going away for a long time.
CHAVEZ: You've taken everything away from me. I've got nothing left
to live for.
HORATIO: Is that why you've come down here brandishing a gun?
CHAVEZ: I'm not going back to jail. You're going to have to kill me.
HORATIO: I _am_ going to kill you.
[Chavez points his gun at Horatio and Horatio shoots him dead.]
Okay, I don't know if that's word for word but the line "I _am_ going
to kill you" is right and that's what I am concerned about: Horatio
would have been in his rights to shoot a suspect that pulled a gun on
him but NOT if he had just said "I'm going to kill you" because if
witnesses had heard him say that then internal affairs should have
been all over Horatio saying Chavez pulled his gun on him in self
defense. Uh. I couldn't believe that Horatio didn't face an inquiry
for that!
