Didn't know that, but he did have a small part in the war movie 
Midway....hard to  recognize without his mustache.

I love wathcing old movies and seeing young actors whose careers have 
blossomed.

In fact I caught a re-run of Young Guns 2 and noticed that William
Petersen 
played the part of Pat Garret. Actually I got a kick out of one scene
where 
he comes into the boarding house where Billy the Kid has just killed 
Garret's deputy, and Petersen/Garret is stepping around the edge of the 
room, looking at the crime scene. Very reminiscent of Grissom stepping 
carefully around a CSI crime scene....
