Just a random trivia tidbit--with "The King of Queens" canceled last
season, CSI, in its 8th season (renewed recently for a 9th), is now
the longest-running scripted show (60 Minutes and Survivor are
unscripted) still airing on CBS, believe it or not (The dean of CBS
primetime, so to speak). Seems like not so long ago, CSI was the new
kid on the block, battling ABC's "Millionaire" and NBC's "Will and
Grace" (both long gone now) for ratings. With CSI a near-lock to be
the #1 scripted show in the ratings for the 6th straight year, who
knows how long it will run.
Longest-running scripted shows still in production on each network:
CBS: CSI (8 seasons)
NBC: Law & Order (18 seasons)
ABC: According to Jim (7 seasons), yeah, I was surprised too :)
FOX: The Simpsons (19 seasons), if you don't count animated shows,
then:
24 (6 seasons, currently on hiatus, but will be back next
season)
I think all of these shows will be back next for the 2008-2009 season,
so you can add 1 to each of these numbers soon.
