While all the parody stuff of the TV show was pretty good, and there
were a lot of laughs, the overall experience wasn't memorable for me.
It lacked a real focus. It didn't know if it wanted to be a comedy like
THE BREAK UP or something like a movie with the aforementioned Will
Ferrell. This was reflected in the the depiction of the rock star
boyfriend. It was inconsistent. He really was a cool guy, smart and
insightful, with a half-decent way of looking at things. Then in
another scene -- the scene in which he's blandished into performing at
the luau -- he incongruously behaves like an over-the-top idiot, a
buffoonish parody of a egotistical ***ually promiscuous rock star. But
by this time, it was established as another kind of comedy. So, when it
was over, I had laughed, but it's not something I'm going to recommend
to my friends. And if this is what stuff like KNOCKED UP and SUPERBAD
is like, I'm not likely to add those films to my queue.
