Keep in mind, Mythbusters doesn't just make stuff up. They get
ideas from real life urban legends. All cop shows, especially the
proecedurals, like CSI or L&O, do a lot of "ripped from the
headlines" episodes, and CSI has always loved the really weird
technical stories. I suspect it's as much "inspired by common
sources" as anything else.
