I lodged a complaint against the ISP with the BBB, but nothing came of
it. Here's some of the complaint, with names, etc. deleted to protect
the s***bags.
COMPLAINT INFORMATION:
Complaint #:
Complaint Type: General Complaint (not a car maker)
Date Received: 5/10/2004
Primary Complaint Classification: Service Issues
Secondary Complaint Classification: Refund Practices
Complaint:
Internet service consists of three parts - Email access, Newsgroup
access, and Internet access. I've subscribed to <s***bag ISP> Internet
service since August 2003. From August 2003 to May 7th, 2004 at 1:52PM,
it included all three parts. However, when I logged in at 9PM on May 7th
2004, all Newsgroup access (via the news server "news.<s***bag ISP>")
was gone. The actual error message was "480 Authentication required for
command." I sent <s***bag ISP> an email at 9:10PM to re****t the problem
(to <s***bag ISP> Network Operations Center ), and got no reply. At
~10AM on May 10th, 2004, I called <s***bag ISP>, talked to <s***bag ISP
owner>, and he said they cancelled newsgroup access, and that they'd
sent out an email asking if anybody wanted it, and nobody had replied.
So, they dropped it (saving THEM money).
I never got any such email, or else I would have replied. It's 90% of
the reason why I HAVE internet access. I checked my Inbox, and <s***bag
ISP> never sent me any such email. I archive EVERYTHING. When I asked to
see the email, <s***bag ISP owner> said he doesn't keep that stuff
around, and that it was probably deleted. Convenient, isn't it?
When I asked, <s***bag ISP owner> said he would not give me a partial
refund for May because they don't do that. Now, I've got to join another
ISP, and pay a non-refundable $29.95 connect fee, just to get back my
news server newsgroup access, which my $20 SHOULD HAVE bought for me
thru May 31st.
Bottom line, <s***bag ISP> is arbitrarily dropping services without
notice. I sincerely doubt that they ever sent out an email notification
of this.
Desired Settlement: Other (requires explanation)
Settlement Explanation:
1. Partial refund of my May 2004 subscription fee or reinstatement of
news server newsgroup access.
2. A sign in the store indicating that news.<s***bag ISP> Newsgroup
Access is no longer provided as part of the package.
