During the drive to the Old House Barnabas heard Vickie sniffle,
reaching out he takes her hand in his, Vickie moves closer to him as he
drives...this helps Vickie feel better. As they the Old House comes
into view Barnabas has a strange feeling... but does not mention it to
Vickie.
Entering the Old House Barnabas hangs up his coat and cane, he helps
Vickie with her coat, they both go into the drawing room, Barnabas
follows Vickie, something catches his eye, the sight of a note on the
small table by the stairs.. he picks it up and reads it. Vickie looks
back seeing him reading. "What's that?" she wonders. "Its a thank you
note from Willie for allowing him to spend the night yesterday." He
crumples it up then tosses it into a nearby trash bin. Vickie sits down
in the high back chair before the fire place. Barnabas starts a fire
while Vickie opens and looks tough the album Carolyn lent to Barnabas.
looking at all the pictures Vickie says. " My goodness, I had no idea
how popular Mrs.Stoddard was, there are so many pictures of her with
young men." Barnabas sets the fire place poker down. "After seeing the
picture of her in that bathing suit its no wonder... Elizabeth was a
very beautiful young woman."
Vickie nods her head while still looking though the photograph's.
Taking a chair Barnabas brings it closer to Vickie. They both look at
the pictures in the book.
"Look there is another one with Bill Malloy." Barnabas is interested.
"Perhaps you should speak with Mr.Malloy." Vickie looks sad. "He's
dead." Barnabas looks at Vickie. "He is? how do you know?" Vickie
looks into Barnabas' deep dark eyes. "I met him when I firs arrived at
Collinwood, he was a very nice man, worked for Mrs.Stoddard." Barnabas
interrupts... "You know you can call her Elizabeth don't you?" Vickie
smiles.. "Yes, I guess I just forgot, anyway, Bill was murdered by
Matthew Morgan, he was the care taker of the estate, I even saw Bill's
ghost." Barnabas seemed amazed. "Murder? ghost's? you have been
though so much Vickie."
Giving Barnabas a pretty laugh Vickie recounts the time Matthew
kidnapped her. Barnabas' eyes widen. "A ghost saved you? honestly?"
Vickie nods her head. "Yes, the ghost of Josette Colins saved me.
Barnabas looks down at Vickie mentioning Josette.
Turning a page Vickie sees a picture. "I wonder who this is? he's very
handsome... and look how he is looking at Elizabeth?" Barnabas looks at
the picture. "He does have the look of someone in love." "I wonder
who he is, or was." Vickie pulls the picture from the corners. "Maybe
his name is written on the back" Turning it over Vickie reads. "Looks
like Jonas Carver." "I wonder who he was. Looking up Vickie thinks...
"I remember Elizabeth calling some one by that name to come back and
help her with the cannery... I think he proposed to her once." Barnabas
raises his eyebrows.. "Really now." He then looks at the picture again.
"I think Elizabeth turned him down, so he went away."
Turning the pages Vickie and Barnabas recognize the picture of Jason
McGuire. "You know him?" Barnabas asks. Vickie nods her head. "Yes,
that's Jason McGuire, younger of course but its him." "who is that with
them?" Vickie looks again. "I believe that's Paul Stoddard, he's
Carolyn's father." Barnabas gazes at the picture. "Oh." "There are
many other pictures of Jason and Elizabeth... I wonder if he was my
father..." Barnabas looks away at recalling what happened to Jason
McGuire.
