Vickie stands in Carolyn's room. Carolyn walks to her wardrobe. "I'm
not sure what you like but your welcome to what ever fits, you are
taller than I am." Vickie smiles. "You know, I just may have left a few
of my own things in the wardrobe in my old room, do you think we could
take a look?" Carolyn grins and nods her head.
As the two friends step into Vickie's former bedroom they stop suddenly
at the sight that met their eyes. The smiles on their pretty face's are
gone. "What on earth?" uttered Carolyn as she went into the room.
Vickie was shocked to see all the drawers taken out and tossed on the
floor, the bed over turned and everything in a shambles. The wardrobe
was opened and almost turned over. Going to the wardrobe Vickie reaches
in and picks up a dress from the bottom. "I thought I left something,
this will do if you think it looks ok." Carolyn was looking around the
room in awe and wonder, a quick glance towards Vickie she agreed it was
fine.
Taking the dress from Vickie Carolyn insists that while Vickie showers
Carolyn would have Mrs. Johnson press it for her. Vickie tires to tell
her she could press it herself but Carolyn takes the dress off to Mrs.
Johnson. "You can change in my room after your shower, it should be
pressed by then. Vickie allows Carolyn to help her. " Perhaps its
because she is the new Mistress of Collinwood that Carolyn felt she
could order people about." Vickie goes to take a refreshing shower.
Closing the bathroom door Vickie undresses. Setting the water to the
right temperature she steps into the stall and puts her head under the
falling water... sighing in relief. "Oh this does feel so good." She
says to herself. "Oh, I bet it does." Said a voice. Peeking out of
the stall Vickie sees... "Roger! what are you doing here?!" With a
grin of a cheshire cat Roger simply says. "Maybe you should lock the
door my dear, than someone won't accidentally come in and catch you in
your birthday suit."
Walking towards her Vickie, not thinking, backs away to the back of the
shower. Roger opens the door wide taking a good look at her nude body.
"Had we gone this far Vickie, perhaps we would still be together." He
said as his eyes moved over her body." Suddenly Barnabas' voice is
heard, speaking sharply. "Roger! " Stopping in stunned silence Roger
bows his head, the look of being caught at being a peeping tom. Without
even a word of apology Roger rushes out, fully embarrassed.
Hearing Barnabas enter Vickie reaches for and closes the opened door.
"I'm so sorry that happened Vickie, I will speak to Roger about..."
Quickly Vickie says. "No! please don't Barnabas, I'm sure he didn't mean
it.. he is under a lot of stress." Barnabas, having his back to the
door answers. "That's no excuse for what he did... but if you wish I
not speak to him I will not." Vickie smiles. "Thank you Barnabas,
you've been so good to me." Looking at his hands Barnabas assures
Vickie. "It's my pleasure, now I will leave you to finish your
bathing." Vickie hears Barnabas turn the lock then close the door.
Looking at herself in Carolyn's mirror Vickie checks herself over.
Brushing her hair and applying make up she feels much better. rising up
from Carolyn's make up table Vickie turns to leave when by the corner of
her eye she sees something. looking back at the table Vickie sees the
corner of a photo, beneath a blotter pad. Pulling it out Vickie sees a
picture of Elizabeth in her wedding dress. a pretty smile on her face,
but looking closer Vickie can see that although trying to hide herself
behind the bouquet there was a slight swelling about her abdomen.
Vickie wonders.... "was that me or Carolyn, to a good observer you can
see Elizabeth is pregnant." Looking back to make sure Carolyn doesn't
come in Vickie takes the photo.
Out in the hall Vickie is about to go towards the kitchen to thank
Mrs. Johnson for pressing her dress, when she hears voices coming from
her room. Standing at her door, Vickie sees Barnabas, Carolyn and Tony
Peterson. "This is very strange." said Barnabas. Carolyn agreed. "But
who could have done it, no one has been in the house but family." Tony
suggests they call the police. "This definitely looks like an attempted
robbery... although I can't say why some one would want to rob a room
that was no longer occupied." Vickie appears at the door. Barnabas
turns and smiles at seeing her. "You look lovely." He said. Vickie
couldn't help but smile. Carolyn takes Tony's arm. "I think its time
to read Mother's will." Tony holds her hand on his arm, and looks
loving at her. "Yes I think it is also, shall we?" Tony and Carolyn
leave the room. Barnabas walks to Vickie. "Are you all right?" Vickie
nods her head. "Yes, I will be fine... as long as you are with me to
protect me." Barnabas blushes slightly. Placing her hand on his arm
Barnabas says. "Shall we?" Vickie again nods. They follow behind
Carolyn and Tony.
In the drawing room, Tony Peterson takes Carolyn to the sofa and helps
her to sit down, Maggie comes and sits close to her friend, they hold
hands and smile at each other. Roger moves a chair close to Carolyn's
side, not really looking at anyone but holding a large glass of brandy.
Barnabas enters with Vickie, they sit at the end of the sofa by the
fireplace. Barnabas notices that a camera in the back of the room.
Leaning towards Carolyn he asks. "Why is the reading of the will being
taped?" Carolyn replies. "Because David couldn't come, his new job has
him busy, and his girlfriend Viola broke off their engagement, I spoke
to him on the phone and agreed to have the will taped then sent it to
him." Barnabas sat back, holding Vickie's hand.
Tony Peterson opens a large envelope. "Good afternoon, I'm Tony
Peterson, attorney for the late Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, upon her
death I was instructed to read her last will and testament... I shall do
that right now." Some one in the back of the room starts the camera.
