i might interject at this point and say that nick knight was never a
cop.

he was a crusade aged vampire, disgusted with himself and trying to
make amends for his crimes.  he was discovered after throwing himself
on a pipe bomb to save people.

when the coroner discovered who and what he was and offered to help,

electronic persona for himself as a cop who was transferring into the
