My vague recollection is that they had to change the method of
Jeb's downfall because some actor became unavailable, and they
pulled the ghost-of-Peter-Bradford thing out of their *ss because
Roger Davis _was_ available.

I think so.  Didn't they say explicitly somewhere that all this
retconned Jeb-Hawkes-in-1796 stuff happened as Peter and Vicki were
on their way out of town leaving Collins****t for good?
