The Final Days and Nights of Sarah Collins
Chapter One.
The Year was the late 18th Century... 1795.
Young Sarah Collins woke with a fright. "Barnabas! Barnabas..."
Hurrying into her room was her elder brother Barnabas. Quickly he sits
on the side of her bed. Sarah falls weeping into his arms. "There,
there, another bad dream little one." Clutching at his shoulder Sarah
feels safe. Hugging his little sister Barnabas tries to comfort her.
With a heavy heart Barnabas hears her sobbing, this was another of
Sarah's nightmare's. Patiently Barnabas holds Sarah.
Sitting back down on her bed Sarah takes a deep breath. Barnabas
gently wipes her tears. "You're not going away again are you Barnabas, I
missed you so much." Barnabas lets go a light laugh... "But I've just
come back, why would I go away again, I missed you as well, didn't you
like the gifts I brought you from Martinique?" Sarah lay back in bed.
"I would rather have you home more than any thing else in all the
world." Sarah gazes upon her brother's face. "What is it Sarah, why
are you staring at me that way." Rising up quickly Sarah again takes
Barnabas into her arms. " I dreamed you went away again and everyone
was so sad, I kept telling them you would come back but that made
everyone cry, then I felt so frightened because I couldn't find you... I
looked and looked for you." Barnabas felt a chill down his back.
Returning her embrace Barnabas tucks Sarah back into bed.
Barnabas looks into Sarah eyes. "It was just a dream, I shan't be
going away for a long time, when Josette arrives she and I will be
married and live here on the estate, would you like that?" Sarah nods
her head. Before Barnabas can stand Sarah asks. "Barnabas, please
stay with me till I fall asleep." Barnabas smiles. "Yes I will."
With one last long glance Sarah closes her eyes. Barnabas holds Sarah's
hand in his until she is fast asleep. As Barnabas returns to his room
he ponders Sarah's strange dream.
