The Final Days and Nights of Sarah Collins
Chapter five
Sarah was miserable her parents Naomi and Joshua were scarcely
speaking to one another, strange things began to happen, shortly after
Sarah saw Barnabas leave Josette's maid Angelique's room Barnabas was
stricken down with what seemed as if he were chocking, Barnabas felt he
was about to die when the pain and chocking suddenly stopped. Sarah
also noticed that Ben Stokes was behaving very strange, he would
sometimes disappear in the middle of the day, by accident Sarah saw Ben
enter Angelique's room. "I'm going to go into that room and find out
what is going on." Sarah thought.
One evening Aunt Abigail announced that she believed that a witch had
come to Collinwood and that she knew who the witch was.... everyone knew
she was speaking of Miss Winters. Joshua dismissed his sister's
accusations, saying that witches were things told in fables... "they do
not exists Abigail." He would shout.
Sarah did not believe in witches, except in fairy stories that
Barnabas would read to her... she knew they were made up so that
children would not disobey their parents.
Sarah was so all alone in the great mansion filled with people, with
the wedding to take place in a few days she missed Barnabas most of all,
he no longer came to wish her good night, days would go by without
seeing her beloved brother Barnabas, who was much to busy.
As Sarah sat in the hallway, trying to play the flute that Barnabas
had given her when he returned from Martinique, she saw Angelique leave
her room. Waiting a few minutes Sarah silently opened the maids room
and stepped inside. Looking around the room she didn't honestly know
what she was looking for, but as Sarah was about to leave she saw that
the door knob was turning.
The door opens and in steps Angelique, she sees Sarah standing in her
room, Angelique's eyes become wide with anger, her face is flushed.
"What are you doing here, this is my room, shall I tell your father that
you were spying, or perhaps trying to steal something." Sarah grew
pale. "I wasn't spying, I-I was looking for my doll Samantha, I lost her
and sometimes I find her here." Angelique becomes calm. "I see, well
she is not here, you can go look for her some place else." Sarah
believes she is fortunate and leaves Angelique's room.
After Sarah leaves Angelique locks her door, she then pulls out
Sarah's doll, looking at her Angelique smiles. "So your name is
Samantha, well little doll you will help me to get Barnabas back." She
then laughs.
Standing outside Angelique's room, Ben hurries up to the little girl.
"Miss Sarah, what were you doin in there." Sarah tells Ben she was
looking for her doll. Ben warns her. "That's no place for a sweet
little girl like you, now you go on and play or find that Miss Winters,
I think she said she was looking for you to start your lessons. Sarah
looked up at Ben, till he turned her in the right direction and helped
her off. "There ya go little miss." Sarah could hear Ben laughing as
she ran to find Miss Winters.
Turning to go upstairs Sarah sees Barnabas. "Barnabas!" she shouts.
But Barnabas does not stop. "I'm sorry Sarah I must go to Collinsport,
on an errand for Father, you understand." He opens the door and leaves
quickly.
At the top of the stairs Sarah sees Miss Winters. "I've been
searching for you Sarah, its time for your lessons. As Sarah and Vickie
walk to Sarah's room Vickie looks upon the sweet little girl. "I can't
believe this is little Sarah, only now she is alive, Vickie knew it
would not be long before little Sarah would die, she hopped that maybe
she could prevent that from happening.
During the lesson Vickie begins to tell Sarah of the future..." One day
there will be great things invented, and people will even learn to fly."
Sarah smiles and laughs, her smile goes away when she looks at the
doorway. Vickie turns and sees Abigail standing and scowling at her.
"What deviltry are you teaching my niece. Before Vickie could explain
Abigail leaves. Looking at Sarah Vickie says. "I don't know why your
Aunt doesn't like me, I never did anything to her." Sarah smiled.
"Father says that Aunt Abigail scared off all her suitors because she
was stronger than they were." Sarah laughs, and they continue the
lesson.
