The Final Days and Night's of Sarah Collins chapter 13
Two days had passed since Josette and Jeremiah had disappeared...
Sarah remained mute, staying away from Barnabas for fear that she in
some small way allowed or caused this to happen... "Its my fault, I
should have told Barnabas about Josette and Jeremiah, now it is too
late." Sarah's thoughts raced, blaming herself for her brother's woes.
Barnabas knew of the rumors being spread about the village, it was all
he could do to dismiss them. Barnabas also felt the pain of Sarah's
affliction. Not wishing to be pitied Barnabas no longer went into the
shipyards... the constant staring made him feel uncomfortable, the
workers did not understand nor knew how to approach him.
Barnabas worried about Josette and prayed she was safe and would soon
return to Collinwood, he had already forgiven her in his heart.
Sarah felt an outcast in her own home, the servants who at one time
spoke and smiled with her now only waited on her from a distance, they
feared catching her sickness, although there was whispered chatter that
little Sarah was under a spell by the witch... some began to believe
that Mistress Abigail's conception of Miss Winters being the evil one
was correct, but they could not understand why she would afflict poor
little Sarah, an innocent child.
Vickie noticed that when she was spoken to by the servants or those
in the Village their eyes would never meet hers, not wanting to bring
down her rath upon them. Vickie also knew that trying to reason with
there superstitions was futile, she did her best in keeping a low
profile.... in the back of her mind Vickie knew that there was indeed a
person using supernatural powers.... but who.
The people in the village all spoke of the mansion high on the cliffs,
of the Collins' whom at one time they envied... now, how glad they were
of not being a member of that cursed clan.
Natalie would sit at her table reading her tarot cards searching for
the answer she knew would never come.... still she wondered who moved
them... wondering if it was Miss Winters, and why she did, was she
trying to warn her or was she casting something evil. Natalie feared
for Josette's safety, her brother was beside himself with grief and
anger, feeling the shame his daughter may have brought to their family
name and the Collins'.
