The Final Days and Night's of Sarah Collins Chapter 16
After hearing that Barnabas intends to merry beneath his station Joshua
promptly disowns him from the family. "You shall not inherit a single
penny Barnabas! you shall be thrown out into the world." It is Naomi
who consoles her son, telling him that she will help him and Angelique.
Jeremiah's funeral was a solum one, only the family attended... Joshua
did not wish that Sarah be present, although Naomi did not want Sarah to
be alone, having given the servants the day off after their cooking for
that day was done.
Barnabas found it difficult to stand at the grave site for his Uncle
and friend, knowing that he had taken his life for the love of one
woman, Sarah could see the pain in her brother's eyes as he wept openly
for Jeremiah, for Josette and indeed for himself. Walking away from the
cemetery Sarah could almost hear her favorite song being sung not too
far away.. looking towards the Collins mausoleum Sarah becomes
frightened and hurries to catch her Mother's hand. Barnabas is the last
to walk away from the grave, kneeling he whispers. "I hope you can
forgive me Jeremiah..." he places a purple flower on the ground. "Rest
in peace dear Uncle, beloved friend." Rising Barnabas walks towards
town.
Sarah sits before the fire place, enjoying the warmth and glow of the
flames. Joshua enters, behind him is the Reverend Trask, speaking to
Joshua as if he were a spoiled child. "Mr Collins, you can not move
your family to the new residence until I have cleansed it with an
exorcism to cast out the evil spirits that dwell within it now." Joshua
remains unyielding. "I am the head of this household, Sir! and will take
my family to our new home, you have absolutely no say in the matter, my
sister summoned you here, not I, there for restrain yourself in dealing
with her and not me." Gazing down to Sarah, Joshua orders her to go to
her room, leaving the Reverend standing alone, and embarrassed.
Worried that her father may find Miss Winters at the newly built
Collinwood Sarah sneaks out while everything is being packed to find her
former governess.
Sarah finds Vickie and secretly brings her back to the Old House as
everyone is now calling it... "I know where you can hide Miss Winters,
no one else knows about it but me." Taking Vickie to a secret room
Sarah hopes she will be safe, remembering her dream Sarah now knows she
is meant to help her friend.
After moving Angelique sends Ben to take something from Abigail's
room... Abigail finds Ben and tells Joshua to punish him. Joshua locks
Ben in a basement cell, promising to punish him at a later time. "Or
perhaps I will hand you over to the constable as a thief." Ben is
worried he will be taken back to prison.
That evening the wedding of Barnabas and Angelique is about to take
place... Sarah finds a way into the Old House unseen by the others.
