The Final Days and Night's of Sarah Collins Chapter 17
Sarah remains silent from where she is hidden... she listens to the
ceremony.
The minister asks Barnabas about his Father, "Mr. Collins I was hoping
to speak to your esteemed Father, will he be attending." Barnabas is
slightly uncomfortable, he replies that his Father will not be attending
the wedding..."I'm sorry Reverend, my Father has decided not to be here
this evening." Sarah wonders why she was not invited.
With Ben Stokes and Naomi as their only witnesses the minister begins.
As the minister speaks Sarah takes a peek to see what a wedding is
really like, having never attended one before. After a quick glance
Sarah could see that everyone was strange, as if they really didn't want
to be there... everyone except Angelique, she seemed so happy. Sarah
sat still as she heard the Reverend ask Angelique.
Do you take this man as your lawful husband, Angelique's reply was
"Yes, I do." Then Sarah heard the same question said to Barnabas... And
do you Barnabas take this woman as your lawful wife.... Barnabas did not
reply as quickly as Angelique did.. but at long last he also
replied."Yes, I do." Then the reverend said that they were now man and
wife... Sarah felt sad that she had to hide, but was glad she was there.
Sarah could hear how happy everyone was trying to be... Barnabas asked
Ben to bring the Champagne. But as they opened the bottle Sarah could
hear them gasp in fear. She heard them say that the bottle did not have
Champagne but blood! This frightened Sarah, so she crept out of
Collinwood and ran to the New House.
Living in the new Collinwood Sarah missed her old room, she wanted to
go and visit her Brother but Aunt Abigail would not allow her. Sarah was
able to sneak Miss Winters out of Collinwood and take her to the Old
House, there Barnabas would hide her in the stables, away from Reverend
Trask.
Sarah felt more and more lonely at Collinwood, some times she would
sneak away and go to the Old House just to sit in her room.
One day as she sat in her old room she saw Ben bring Miss Winters from
the stables and into the house. Sarah waited for her to be alone, then
went to speak with her.
Sarah slowly opens the door, she hears Miss Winters ask. "Who's
there." Walking in Sarah smiles. "It's just me Miss Winters... " Miss
Winters is glad to see little Sarah. After they embrace Sarah asks her.
"Are you all right." Victoria answers. "I don't like having to hide
from the Reverend Trask, I wish ..." Sarah wonders what Miss Winters
wished. "What do you wish, Miss Winters." She asked. Victoria looks at
Sarah and smiles. "Oh it's nothing... I wish I wasn't so afraid."
Sarah laughs... "You shouldn't be afraid, Barnabas won't allow anything
bad to happen to you... Mother gave him this house, its his now, he is
the Master here, Reverend Trask can't do anything to you while your
here." Sarah realizes that's it is time for her to go home, but says
that she will be back soon. Victoria thanks little Sarah for her help.
The days go by slowly at Collinwood, Sarah does not see her brother,
and misses him so much. One evening Sarah and her Mother and Father go
to Visit Barnabas and his new wife Angelique... While they are there
Sarah asks after Miss Winters, Barnabas becomes uneasy and says that
Miss Winters was not there, but Sarah knows that she is... as Barnabas
and Joshua argue Sarah slips away and sees Victoria, who makes her
promise not to tell anyone that she is there, Sarah tells Her father
that Victoria was not in the Old House. Joshua forbids Sarah from ever
coming to the Old House again. Sarah and Barnabas are very sad.
Not too long after their first month in the New Collinwood Abigail
sends the Reverend Trask to the Old House to exorcise the witch.
As the Reverend is outside shouting Angelique is inside a room,
Barnabas p***** the room and hears something but he does not investigate
what it is... he does not allow the Reverend to enter the house.
Angelique uses her black magic to help the Reverend Trask catch who he
thinks is the witch... After burning a house of cards Victoria runs from
the Old House thinking that her room was on fire... Victoria is taken to
goal being charged with witchcraft.
