The Final Days and Night's of Sarah Collins Chapter 20
=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0Barnabas was gone, Joshua could not believe he would
never see his only son ever again... Angelique enters the room, Joshua
turns and glairs at the woman he believes caused this tragedy, although
Joshua did not know how correct his feelings were.
"My son is dead, he will be buried in secret." Angelique was shocked
that Joshua would want to keep Barnabas' death a secret. "How can you
keep this a secret, Barnabas must have a funeral." Joshua shook his
head. "No, we will tell everyone that Barnabas has gone away to
England." Josette hears this and remembers the book, reading the passage
that she read about Barnabas leaving for England, so Barnabas' death was
changed in the family history book, just as her death was.. Josette did
not fully believe she would ever take her own life, instead she knew
that the book was as wrong about her as it was wrong about Barnabas.
Joshua made it clear that no one would mention Barnabas' illness. " I
do not wish to cause a panic in the Village, if the towns people knew,
they would want to burn Barnabas' body." Naomi gasped. "No, they would
not do that to my son." Angelique understood how they felt, although
she knew what was to truly happen to Barnabas. "I have arranged for
Barnabas to be buried in a secret Place known only by me, no one knows
of it, this is how it must be." Angelique, knew that she could send Ben
to follow them and tell her were they've taken Barnabas.
"Ben you must follow Joshua to where he is taken Barnabas, after you
learn of the place you must find a holly tree, fashion a long stake
making sure the point is needle sharp, it must be sharp enough to pierce
a man's chest, also find a mallet, when you have these things you will
show me where Barnabas is and we shall make sure that Barnabas does not
rise, as the curse describes that he will.
Sarah could no longer resist, without Millicent knowing she went to
the Old House to see why her parents were spending so much time there.
Approaching the front door, Sarah hid herself in the bushes when the
doors were opened, she saw Riggs and another servant carrying out a
large box, behind it was her Father Joshua, as quiet as she can, and
even though she is frightened Sarah follows to where they take the
large box. "It looks like the same sort of box that Uncle Jeremiah was
in, but no one told me that someone died." Sarah wonders.
Reaching the the family mausoleum Sarah stops, she remembers her dream
and the strange feeling when ever she came near the building... She is
about to return to Collinwood when she suddenly feels brave and
continues to see where her Father is taking the large box.
After a while Sarah is close enough to see that there is a room inside
the mausoleum, she sees her Father close the hidden door after Riggs and
the other servant had left the box inside. As she hurries home Sarah
sees Ben also watching, she avoids him and goes back to Collinwood, no
one was the wiser for her disappearance.
The following twilight Angelique and Ben return to the Collins
Mausoleum, Ben shows Angelique how the secret door opens, they enter.
"I must do this Ben so Barnabas can rest." Ben watches as Angelique
opens the coffin lid. "Is it true what you said about Mr.Barnabas, that
he will rise from the dead." Angelique nods her head. Suddenly Ben
shouts. "Then you should be here when he does!" Pushing Angelique away
Ben leaves the room and closes the door behind him. Angelique panics.
"No Ben! " She turns to do what she must, but as she places the stake
on his heart Barnabas opens his eyes and looks at her.
Looking around the room Barnabas does not know where he is, then he
recalls the secret room. "Why am I here, I was in my bed, I, yes I
died, how can I be alive again." Seeing the fear in her face Barnabas
climbs out of the coffin. "Tell me Angelique how did I come to be
here." Angelique stutters her words... "Y-you d-did d-die, you were
brought here by your Father." Barnabas takes Angelique by her arm, he
sees the stake and mallet on the ground were she dropped them. "What
are these, what were you going to do with them." Barnabas at last
remembers. "This is the curse isn't it, Tell me!"
Angelique nods her head. "Yes is it.. I was only trying to help you
Barnabas." Nodding his head Barnabas glares at her. "I died, now I am
alive, tell me what is to happen to me Angelique, tell me everything."
Angelique tells Barnabas his fate. "You will live only at night, the
moon is you sun, before dawn you must return to this coffin where you
will return to the dead until the setting of the sun when you will rise
again, you shall stay this way for all eternity."
Barnabas is aghast. "I recall one other thing in your curse Angelique,
you said that anyone who loved me would die.... now you will be the
first victim of the curse, unless you were lying to me when you said you
loved me." Angelique shakes her head. "No Barnabas! I do love you."
Placing his hand around her throat Barnabas strangles her to death.
Opening the secret door Barnabas sees Ben standing out side, he bares
his fangs, when Ben shouts out that he will help him. "I will protect
you during the day Master Barnabas,Please don't kill me." Barnabas
agrees that Ben will help him, knowing that he has always been a good
and true friend and servant. "Take Angelique out into the woods and
bury her in an unmarked grave. Ben agrees to do what Barnabas tells
him. Barnabas feels the urge for blood he leaves Ben and goes towards
Collinsport.
