I know she did, but I believe it really is an organ. It's part of the 
endocrine system, so that's why the writers wrote it that way, I guess. 
Didn't Lexie graduate from the overnight school of medicine anyway...?

The spoilers I'm reading say it's a small piece of the pancreas. <shrug>
