There were some questions about how long Edie could survive her
hanging.
I spend too much time on the history channel where they have discussed
hanging as an execution method. The correct method of hanging is to
tie the knot and place it just right so that it breaks the neck and
instantly kills the person. Quite often this was not done correctly
and the person dies from lack of air, a process that can take quite a
few minutes.
Edie could have survived for a while. And pulling up on the scarf
would reduce the pressure on her neck and increase her time of
survival.
