It's not a lawyer thing, it's the way these rebroadcast arrangements
work. The deal with USA and the two "Law & Order" spinoffs is that USA
airs the repeats nine days after the first airing. I would imagine the
"Dragnet" deal is similiar, since it's produced by the same studio.
My guess is that the studio or the broadcast network doesn't want the
cable repeats to cut into the first-run audience.
