At 5:31AM a call came in. The Basque Restaurant and Bar is on fire.
It's at the corner of Hollywood and Vine. At 7:58AM it was essentially
knocked down. The nightclub was totally engulfed in flames. There are
flareups and hot spots cropping up now and then so they fire
department will stay on scene until it is officially out. The place
was being renovated. Other business around the Basque are water and
smoke damaged. Historical Knickerbocker Hotel is the closest to the
nightclub but was not effected(sp?). Had the fire spread out it could
have taken out other businesses such as the Historic Pantages Theater
and Capital Records.
Hollywood is trying to make a comeback.. Trying to be a destination to
visit once again and it is doing it. Then something like this has to
happen. Very sad.
