Well, Sam was with her on some cases where Abby was screwing up big time,
maybe due to a hangover, but, Sam was being honest in her response, IMO.
On
more than a few occasions, Sam or others had to intervene and help Abby
figure out what to do. Given that, as well as the new information Abby
just
gave her, I think Sam's question was perfectly legit and she deserved an
answer, not an incredulous stare. Abby's 'promise' to the staff that she
would never, ever do such a thing again was certainly worthy of an
eyeroll.
You'd think after a month in rehab, she'd know better than to make such a
ridiculous statement. Abby doesn't know she will be staying sober
forever,
nobody does. And for someone who has been consistently unable to maintain
her sobriety and suffered multiple relapses over a decade or more, she
should never lie to anyone, least of all herself, about it.
To me, the other nurses' reactions, being completely sympathetic and
sup****tive without questioning a word out of Abby's mouth was far more
unusual. I've worked in hospitals where caregivers have been impaired,
and
it is only normal to wonder if any unusual behavior in the past was linked
to it. I guess Chuny and Haleh were totally on Abby's side because
they've
known her longer and consider her 'one of them' due to her past as a
nurse.
However, their sup****t for her should've been tempered with concern that
she
might've harmed a patient. Or her child.
Although we never definitively saw Abby drunk at work, we saw her
attempting
to go to work while intoxicated at least once, when Pratt intervened and
stopped her. If she was willing to take care of patients while plastered
that time, there's no real reason to think she wouldn't have done so at
others. At the very least, her extracurricular activities impaired her
competence as a physician, even if she wasn't legally drunk while at work.
BTW, Pratt should've notified his supervisors when the incident occurred,
and, now that she has admitted her alcoholism he is morally and legally
obligated to notify the bosses as well as the state medical board as to
what
he witnessed that night.

Alas, YF lost that weight on a drastic, liquid diet/fast. Relapsing and
regaining the weight is almost inevitable in those cir***stances. Oprah
did
the same thing years ago with the same result.
