Well to be fair that was an unauthorized mission by Goren to protect
his brother's kid. IIRC.

This "Cane" stars (stared?) Jimmy Smits (of "L.A. Law" and "NYPD Blue"
fame) as a Premium Rum manufacture who started out as a honest citizen
on the right side of the law. He has the murderer of his sister
killed. A business rival was ultimately responsible for sending the
murder of Cane's sister. To protect his family and business from this
rival trying to destroy him, he resorts to illegal activity. He sinks
deeper and deeper into crime as he tries to cover up that crime and
tangentially helps his little brother from the Ukrainian mob using the
Cuban mob. He only finds that it is quicksand, the more he tries to
rectify things using illegal means (because he is covering up the
original crime in part), the more trouble he is in. The general theme
is really out of the Godfather Part III: "Just when I thought that I
was out, they pull me back in." Again, has to resort to more illegal
activity to keep the prior crimes secret. I found the premise
interesting. Meanwhile he is loosing his grip on the Rum business his
father put him in control off and had to take it back and give it to
his blood son.
The mid season cliff hanger left him facing a murder charge of the man
who was responsible for sending the man who murdered Cane's sister.
Ironically he didn't commit or ordered committed the murder.
That's it in a big nutshell. Now I most likely won't find out how it
plays out. Frustrating.
