They have to make a decent version of the first book to justify the
sequels. The Sci-fi mini was much better than the '84 movie, but it
still didn't do the story justice. It's been a long time, but are there
any places in the first book that would allow it to be broken into two
or three parts like Lord of the Rings?
Part 1 ends with the arrival on Arakis, or maybe when Paul and his
mother are lost in the desert. Part 2 is their acceptance into Fremen
society and drinking the Water of Life. Part 3 is the revolt of the
Fremen and the battle for the empire. Somehow when I look at it that
way, it reads a lot like the three good episodes of Star Wars.
What do you think, sirs?
