I discounted him on neither of those things.It was purely an expression 
of surprise, I really did no nothing of this chap and it was interesting 
to me that I was reading about his father a little while ago.Have you 
read what he thought about Watergate?
 HOWEVER his politics directly influences his view of science. This is 
never a good idea, Lysenkoism is the best example of a political 
viewpoint subverting the way science works with the only motivation being 
whether it fitted into the dogma of the communist party rather than the 
evidence.
 An example of "best fit" I thought.:-)
