Every thing you said is fact. I worked in the horse industry for a number
of years. The wages were always substandard, far below any minimum wage,
and I did it purely out of love for horses. Very often the wages did not
even reach the lofty heights of poverty level. I recall working on one
ranch where I was paid $300 a month, worked more than 12 hours a day -
from
sun-up to sun-set, plus night watch in the foaling barns - 7 days a week.
I
finally had to leave the horse industry, not because of the subpoverty
wages
paid, but due to the abysmal working conditions and lack of concern for
employees. The final blow - literally - came when a horse kicked me in my
head, and when I fell, stepped on my leg, tearing all the ligaments and
tendons in my knee. I was working for Brown's Quarter Horses of Texas at
the time - the owners of "Emotions", the only mare in history to hold the
World Champion****p at halter five times. They certainly offered no health
care benefits to employees, and did not even pay the emergency room costs
of
my injury, let alone the subsequent rehabilitation therapy or doctor
bills.
Ironically, and adding insult to injury, one part of my duties while
employed with them was to provide therapy and medical treatment to one of
their prized horses who had a leg injury. The costs of medical treatments
and therapy for that one horse was over $1000 a month, far exceeding my
salary. I was unable to prosecute a civil suit against them - IIRC from
20
years ago - because under law anyone who engages employment on a horse
facility is considered an expert in their field and responsible for any
injury they incur. To this day my knee is unreliable, and if I become
fatigued - as opposed to merely tired - my knee will collapse and I will
find myself sitting in a heap on the ground, and with my knee reinjured.
As
much as I love horses, it was one of the most demoralizing experiences I
have ever had to be forced to recognize that a human being had less value
to
horse industry leaders than a horse.
Contact the American Horse Council and let them know what you think about
their endorsement of illegal immigration and exploitation of labor. They
have a large notice on their home page about their desire to aid and abet
illegal immigration and exploit labor.

Find out who your senator and congressman is and contact them to tell them
what you think about illegal immigration and the need to enforce our laws
and protect our borders. I would be glad to help you find that
information
if you don't know who they are.
