Quite simply, production asked both John Kapelos and Natsuko Ohama to take
drastic pay cuts for the 3rd season. When they refused, Schanke and Cohen
boarded a plane for Edmonton and blew up in the air.
John had been with the concept longer than anyone, outside of James D.
Pariott (having starring in the original pilot, opposite Rick
Springfield),
and was being ill treated IMO. But he has remained fond of the show, and
his time with it.
