Isn't it funny how following a series like this shapes our lives forever
when it comes to moments in our life that strike these connections?
Your event does sound more felicitous, although I really did enjoy myself.
I just heard from my hostess. She called to see if I made it home safely
and
wondered how long did I have to wait for a cab. She told me she talked to
her daughter later and found out she was there, with her friend the Board
member in the box seat w/ other guests. According to my hostess, she got
the
extra tickets for her and for me at the daughter-in-law's request, but
there
was no room in the box seat. Furthermore, the fancy dinner was after the
opera, at the downtown Hilton, and there was a ball too. But we were never
invited to that. I don't know why she thought so, but it sounds like she
either got signals crossed, or overstated the invitation for dramatic
effect.
It explains it now...when I left the opera house, there were limos in
front
picking up people who were talking about going to the Hilton. When I went
around the corner to see if I could find a cab stand, there were three big
buses there with people filing into them. There was a woman out on the
street calling out that there were more buses on the way to ferry guests
to
the Hilton. I didn't get it at all, and just assumed a lot of people had
come in from out of town for the opera and were staying at the Hilton. Now
it makes sense.
Anyway, my hostess said in fact she did love the production and thought it
was spectacular. She said she just gets very tired in the evening and
doesn't have the steam to make it to 10pm. I can certainly understand
that...she's 77 and not in very good health. I told her she might want to
do
only matinees in the future, and she said she thinks that's probably a
good
idea.
Glad you had such a great evening, Charles.
