I have season one of "WKRP in Cincinatti", which for years was stalled
by music copyright problems. Finally they released it, substituting
generic rock music for actual hits played on WKRP by DJs Johnny Fever
and Venus Flytrap. Too bad, because the original music was an integral
part of the show. One exception was in the first episode, at the point
when the station converted from easy-listening to a rock format. There
they did use the original music, but it was commissioned for the show,
which held copyright. It was hilarious. The easy-listening disc torn
from the turntable by Johnny Fever was a chorus posing as the Mormon
Tabernacle Choir singing Paul Anka's sappy song, "You're Having My
Baby"!
