Yes, the basic premise of House is repetitious (patient-to-be crashes
in opening scene / House and staff wrangle with patient's esoteric
disease or diseases / they administer a series of often-dangerous
tests, often almost killing the patient / House has epiphany in last
few minutes of episode, diagnoses malady, recommends treatment /
patient is on the road to recovery). This weekly repetition doesn't
bother me. The rich development of character, the brilliance and
subtlety of the performances, and the consistently high level of
intellectual and intuitive content are what make the program great for
me. It echoes in my mind long after it's over - for me, the mark of
excellence in art.

I never thought of those parallels - you're correct! And I've always
enjoyed the other parallel (which the show's creator David Shore
acknowledges) of Gregory House and Sherlock Holmes. Each has a drug
dependency, each keeps aloof from other people, and each uses
intuitive logic to solve the maladies/crimes. Even their names are
similar - House and Holmes!
